What is the best kind of cattle crush for me?
Animal comfort and operator safety are key to great numbers at the sale yard, and while some may long for the “good old days,” the evolution of cattle handling equipment has improved safety and efficiency. A cattle crush partnered with races and holding yards, is an indispensable part of daily life. As ubiquitous as cattle crushes are, they haven’t changed much in the past 20 years.
When Offsider Agricultural Equipment entered the market in 2017, the team were committed to reinventing stock handling. Taking 40 years experience in stock handling equipment development and production, and matching that with 21st century design thinking, Offsider Ag look at everyday on farm challenges, and build smart, cost effective solutions.
That’s just what they did when it came to cattle crushes.
Taking advice from the DPI and Meat and Livestock Australia, producers, vets and cattle transporters, they developed Offsider Ag Cattle Crushes.
Offsider don’t make ‘just another’ product. Their machines make it easier to work smarter, not harder, and the new Cattle Crush range is no exception. Standard on all their crushes, the Offsider Easy Release Head Bale works even when things don’t go as planned, rear split sliders give increase operator visibility and nearside gates give practical access for on farm husbandry. The quiet operation head bale allows the animal to exit without added stress.
Working on a minimal physical input operation, Offsider Ag crushes are designed to minimise excessive noise, while improving ease of use.
“We tested them with my 9 year old nephew and mother in law. They operated the head bale easily and my mother in law, who has worked with cattle all her life, was impressed with the quietness of the action” said David Hicks.
“We wanted to make sure that the whole range of Offsider Ag Crushes have all the safety features as standard. No-one should have to battle on with an old, unsafe crush,” said David.
With 7 different configurations in the range, elements and features such as vet gates, scale integrated floor, parallel squeeze and multiple access options are added to suit operator needs.
The team at Offsider Ag have had a bit of fun with naming the new range. “We hold the idea that sometimes, the offsider is the most valuable part of the whole show! Our Spin-a-Calf and Meat Sheep Handler were simple to name, but with the Offsider Cattle Crush range, we could be a bit more creative.”
